Founding Pastor
A Journey of Grace: Following Christ at all costs.
David’s story is one of searching, discovery, and transformation. From exploring many belief systems to finding clarity in Scripture, his journey shaped his calling to serve as the founding pastor of City Tabernacle.
About Our Founding Pastor
David’s journey of faith began in a family with both Catholic and Protestant roots, where the foundations of biblical teaching were introduced early in life. As a young boy attending Catholic school, he learned the basics of Scripture, participated in his first Holy Communion, and developed a childlike understanding of what it meant to be a disciple of Christ. However, life’s challenges soon disrupted this early sense of spiritual grounding. After his parents’ divorce, David moved to Philadelphia, where he attended public school before returning briefly to Catholic education, however. By the age of 14 while in the 8th grade, he had dropped out altogether from formal schooling.
During his teenage years, David explored a wide range of belief systems, including Eastern philosophies such as Buddhism, Daoism, and Hinduism, as well as Islam and various Christian traditions. Despite years of searching, he found that none of these provided the clarity and truth he was seeking. It wasn’t until his time in the military that a significant turning point occurred. While in basic training, he was handed a Bible by a US Army Chaplin—a seemingly small moment that would later transform his life. Though he initially set it aside, four years later, after his service ended, he picked it up again. At the age of 33, reading Scripture brought a profound clarity that redefined his faith and set him on a new path.
David’s decision to found City Tabernacle was rooted in two deeply held convictions. First, he recognized the fleeting nature of earthly wealth and resolved to invest his resources in something eternal: the mission of Christ. Second, he wholeheartedly believed in the transformative power of the gospel—a truth that had changed his own life and one he felt called to share with others. Divesting his material possessions, he committed to creating a church community that reflects the Kingdom of God, both in its message and its mission.
Guided by Scripture, David finds strength and direction in passages such as –13, –7, and , which reminds him to treasure the eternal above the temporal. His vision for City Tabernacle is deeply tied to these biblical principles, as well as the church’s mission to serve as a Christ-centered community that fosters unity, discipleship, and outreach.
“My life is not about extraordinary accomplishments, but about faithfully responding to the grace and truth of the gospel, trusting God to work through my ordinary efforts for His Kingdom.”
Through his story, David hopes readers will not see someone exceptional but rather a fellow traveler and as one who wrestles with God in the journey of faith—a person striving, with humility and sincerity, to live in obedience to the truth of the gospel. His life’s work is not a pursuit of recognition or accomplishment, but a response to the grace and love of Christ that transformed his own heart.
Today, David leads City Tabernacle with a focus on community, service, and the proclamation of the gospel. He is driven by a desire to see others experience the same life-changing power of faith that first drew him back to Scripture all those years ago.
